Other Scholarships
The Office of Student Financial Services has prepared a list of other scholarship opportunities that may be of interest to students. They are listed alphabetically below.
Abbott & Fenner Business
Consultants
$1,000 A & F Scholarships are available to all high school juniors and seniors, as well as all students
currently registered in any accredited post-secondary institution who are between the ages of 16 and 30.
Requires a short essay, the topic of which can be found at the A & F Web site.
Alabama Council of
Teachers of Mathematics
$1,000 scholarships are awarded to junior/senior level undergraduate students. Applicants must be a
mathematics education major, a mathematics major/education minor, or an education major with an official
mathematics emphasis, anticipating a teaching position in grades 6-12 mathematics. An overall GPA of at
least 3.0 is required.
Alabama Environmental Health
Association
The AEHA presents a student award of $1,000 each year to a junior or senior undergraduate or a graduate
student in Environmental Health or a closely related field.
American Business Womens
Association
A scholarship for students attending or accepted to an Alabama college or university and who has a GPA of at
least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
American Institute of
Certified Public Accountants John L. Carey Scholarships
A $5,000 scholarship for liberal arts degree holders pursuing graduate studies in accounting. Applicants
must be accepted into, or in the process of applying to, a graduate program in accounting—students
who are already actively participating in a graduate accounting program are not eligible for the
scholarship.
Army Emergency Relief Education Assistance
Program
The AER offers scholarships to spouses and dependent children of active duty, retired, or deceased soldiers.
For eligibility requirements, visit their Web site. Applications are due March 1.
BigSun Athletic Organization
All student athletes are eligible for a $500 scholarship, regardless of the sport they are engaged in. The
student must be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute. To apply, send a short (500
words or less) essay describing why you should be the winner of this award to
athleticawards@bigsunathletics.com. Deadline is June
20, 2008.
Central Alabama Aging
Consortium
A $1,000 scholarship for juniors and seniors pursuing a career in gerontology or geriatrics. Applicants must
be enrolled in an accredited university within the eight Southeastern states.
General Board of Higher Education & Ministry
The United Methodist Scholarship and Loan Programs are a churchwide educational service providing scholarships
and loans to help supplement the financial needs of todays students. Funding for these scholarships and
loans are provided through offerings, wills, annuities, and other designated gifts. Through the Loan Program,
students may borrow up to $5,000 per year at 5 percent interest. The 135-year-old United Methodist Student Loan
Fund is the oldest student loan fund in the United States.
John Gyles Education
Awards
These awards are available to all full-time American or Canadian students. The maximum award amount is
$3,000 and a minimum GPA of 2.7 is required.
Marine
Corps Scholarship Foundation
Undergraduate scholarships are available to children (and in some cases grandchildren) of Marines and U.S.
Navy Corpsmen. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.0 and an annual family income less than $77,000.
NASA MUST Scholarship Program
Full-time undergraduate students who are pursuing a degree in physical science, technology, engineering, or
mathematics are eligible. Students of all underrepresented groups (women, African Americans, Hispanic
Americans, Native Americans, and persons with disabilities) are encouraged to apply. Maximum award is half
tuition (not exceeding $10,000 per academic year); a GPA of at least 3.0 is required.
National Association of
Women in Construction
The NAWIC offers scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $2,000. Applicants must be in a construction-related
program.
Joanna F. Reed Medical Scholarship
A renewable stipend of $7,500 is available to students pursuing a medical degree at a recognized private
medical school or who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in pre-medicine at a private university.
Applicants must be residents of Alabama or northwest Florida (all counties in the state west of the
Apalachicola River: Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Homes, Washington, Bay, Jackson, Calhoun, and
Gulf). They may attend school anywhere in the United States. Selection is based on academic performance,
recommendations, financial need, motivation, character, ability, and career potential. Special consideration
is given to students who wish to become general practitioners or internists. Deadline is May of each year.

Rocky
Mountain Elk Foundation
Wildlife Leadership Awards are presented to 10 undergraduate students of junior or senior standing who are
enrolled in a wildlife-related natural resource program at a four-year college or university in the United
States or Canada. Each award carries a $2,000 scholarship.
Soroptimist International of
the Americas
The Womens Opportunity Awards program provides women with cash grants of varying amounts (including
three $10,000 awards). An applicant must provide the primary financial support for her family (including
children, spouse, siblings and/or parents), be enrolled in or accepted to a vocational/skills training
program or an undergraduate degree program, and demonstrate financial need.
Spina Bifida Association of Alabama
The Spina Bifida Association of Alabama established its Higher Education Scholarship Program to create
and enhance the opportunities for persons with spina bifida to achieve their full potential through higher
education. The goal of the program is to enable and encourage persons with spina bifida to further their
education beyond high school and to obtain undergraduate and graduate degrees that they would not otherwise
be able to afford to pursue. Interested applicants (diagnosed with spina bifida) should contact Lori Turner,

Talbots Womens
Scholarship Fund
All women who earned their high school degree or GED at least 10 years ago and are pursuing their first
undergraduate degree may apply. Five women will each be awarded $10,000 scholarships, and 50 women will
each be awarded $1,000 scholarships.
United Methodist Higher
Education Foundation
The UMHEF provides a number of endowed scholarships to Methodist students. Elibility requirements and
award amounts vary among scholarships. Visit their Web site for more information.
